2011/12 MEMORY BOOK: exciting new opportunities!!

Coupeville Elementary School PTA continues to support all our local businesses. In an effort to try and continue to raise funds for our elementary school and community student activities, the CES PTA will be making some tasteful changes to our student’s Memory Books.  The CES Memory Book, also called the “Little Leloo Cly”, will be increased from 40 colored pages to 50 colored pages.  Leloo Cly is a term used by our high school recognizing the local tribe’s language meaning Wolf Cry.

     We will also be using the book as a method of gaining community support from and for local businesses and civic organizations.  All donations made for advertisement space and recognition is 100% tax deductible.  100% of the donations made for advertisement space will be used to fund CES Class Field Trips and Teacher/Community Grant Applications. 

     Twenty ¼ page advertisements in the Little Leloo Cly will be sold in January 2012 for a $100.00 donation.  A CES Student or Students must be depicted in the advertisement.  A copy of the advertisement will be proudly posted on a “PTA Booster Display Wall”, in our Elementary School.  The donor will also receive a matted copy of the advertisement for proud display in their business.  Sample copies will be on an attached order form.  The PTA board reserves the right to determine appropriate Ads for a student viewed book. Deadline for purchasing advertisement space is January 31, 2012. 

     Any business or organization who/whom would prefer to donate a $50.00 service or product for PTA Booster use (Staff Appreciation Week) or a $50 cash donation, will have their name proudly displayed on the PTA Booster Wall.

     The parents of 5^th grade students can purchase a space in the Reflections portion of our Little Leloo Cly to display a tasteful photo and message of their 5^th grade student when they were younger.  A form will be sent home to the parents of 5^th grade students in January 2012.  The deadline for these photos and messages is Friday, February 17^th, 2012.  The photo space will be limited to one per student at a cost of $5.00. 

     The Little Leloo Cly will be presold in March 2012 to CES students and CMS 6^th graders.  The first few pages of the Little Leloo Cly will be devoted to 2011 field trips, 2011 field day, and 2011 5^th grade Moving On Ceremony.  We will also devote 4 pages to civic photos and local sports.  Parents are asked to submit photos to pdkelley@hotmail.com.

Businesses can also email pdkelley@hotmail.com, or  drop your contact information in the PTA drop box in the front hallway and Mr. Kelley will be in touch with you by phone and/or email.  Submit your own Ad or we can design one for you.

WASHINGTON SUPREME COURT RULES STATE MUST FULLY FUND EDUCATION BY 2018

January 5th, 2012 was an historic day for Washington’s children.  In an unanimous ruling, the Washington Supreme Court upheld a trial court ruling that the Washington Constitution requires the legislature to provide amble funding for the education of all children and that the state has failed to fulfill that duty. 

In its sweeping opinion, the Court agreed that the promise of House Bill 2261 (2009) and HB 2776 (2010), if funded, would satisfy the state’s obligation.  These two pieces of legislation—which Washington State PTA supported very strongly—establish a framework and timeline for substantially increasing funding for our state’s public schools to be fully implemented no later than 2018. 

In an unusual move, the Supreme Court retained jurisdiction over the case to enable it to make sure the Legislature does what it said it would do when enacting HB 2261. 

“This is a clear win, and starting today we have a new conversation,” says Novella Fraser, Washington State PTA President. “We’re not going to talk about more cuts to school kids. We’re going to figure out how to pay for an instructional program that prepares all of our children for college and career.”

The lawsuit was brought by the Network for Excellence in Washington Schools (NEWS).  Washington State PTA was one of the founding members of NEWS and has been represented on its executive committee since the beginning.
